February Out and About

Carnevale is one of the largest festivals of its type in Australia, celebrating everything Italian. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Italian Festivals, here in South Australia. It was a honor to attend this years event and as always, it was a great success.

Keeping with the birthday theme, Sunday 21st February marked the 74th anniversary of the first patients being admitted to the Repatriation Hospital. I attended the "Renew the Repat" community event to celebrate this milestone. It was wonderful hearing from Veteran Charlie Short, one of the innaugural patients who still receives care from the staff who work there. Thank you to the 250 people who attended and showed their support in renewing the Repat, not closing it.

Recently the Norwood Football Club held their AGM. I would like to congratulate the following members who have been nominated for Life Membership - Denis Sella-Gianot, John Neate, Peter Borgelt, John Koen and Rick Neagle. Each of these members have put in long hours into making the club what it is today.

Looking ahead in the calendar, the Youth Parliament program will be taking place from Sunday 10th July - Friday 15th July. It provides a great opportunity for anyone aged between 15-24 years old to make a contribution and to put on record their thoughts about how to make South Australia a better place.
