The State Liberals are calling on the Weatherill Labor Government to ensure that commuters on the Seaford and Belair lines will not have to pay to use substitute buses when the lines are closed over the holiday season.
“Sadly for commuters, there will be nothing but chaos on our transport network during the closure of the Seaford and Belair rail lines,” said Shadow Transport Minister Corey Wingard.
“The Weatherill Government should not rub salt in the wound and charge commuters for using substitute buses during this time.
“The Seaford line has become nothing more than an “on-again, off-again” merry-go-round.
“The Weatherill Government needs to ensure South Australians regain confidence in the State’s public transport system.
“This goodwill is the first step in ensuring that this is the case.
“South Australian taxpayers have spent hundreds of millions of dollars on a new rail system that has significant faults less than two years after it was finished being built.
“The closure of these lines is just another example of the Weatherill Government’s total and utter mismanagement of our public transport system, particularly given that the Government has known about cable problems on the line for more than 18 months.
“I also want Minister Mullighan to guarantee that this remediation work will take not one day longer than he has promised commuters.
“Back in June, the State Liberals called for the Weatherill Government to conduct a safety audit of the Seaford Rail line to guarantee community safety.
“It is completely inexcusable and outrageous that it has taken the Weatherill Government this long to start fixing this problem.”
