The Labor Member for Colton, Paul Caica, is under fire after it was revealed he supported cutting the Henley Beach Police Station’s night time opening hours.
Earlier this year the Weatherill Labor Government slashed the Henley Beach Police Station’s opening hours before they had even opened the new $3.8 million station.
The station’s hours were cut from 8am-11pm seven days per week to 9am-5pm on weekdays.
It has now been revealed that the local Labor MP told SAPOL that he thought having the station open until 11pm was “unnecessary” and advocated for only opening the station until 8pm.
“Paul Caica sold out his local community,” said Deputy State Liberal Leader Vickie Chapman.
“Weeks before the last State Election Mr Caica promised his local community a new police station.
“He never told them that he would be complicit in slashing the station’s opening hours.
“Unlike the Weatherill Labor Government the Marshall Liberal Team is committed to delivering quality local police services.
“Steven Marshall has committed to, if elected, reinstating the Henley Beach Police Station as a seven day per week station.
“Henley is a popular entertainment area with busy night time venues. The local police station should be open at night time and on weekends.”
