June out and about

I kick-started this month by attending a very important event on the Italian calendar – Festa della Repubblica Italiana. It’s the celebration of the Italian National Day and here in Adelaide the community comes together to celebrate Italy’s proud history. It was an honour and a privilege to be a part of this very special event  and I thank the Acting Consul of Italy for South Australia Orietta Borgia for the kind invitation.

Keeping with the Italian theme, I also attended The Campania Club’s 40th Anniversary dinner. It was a fantastic evening, and I congratulate the many people involved in making this club such a success.

As many of you are aware, each year I host an Austerity Night to raise money for Operation Flinders and the Norwood Salvation Army.  This year’s event raised nearly $2,000 for these valuable organisations, and I was delighted to deliver the cheques. Thank you to everyone who pledged their support – it will go towards helping teenagers achieve their goals and to those in our community who are struggling to make ends meet.

The Salvo’s Red Shield Appeal also helps those in need and was held this month. For me, it’s a great opportunity to raise money but also chat to those in my electorate as they walk past me on the footpath.  Thanks for your support!

The St Matthew’s Church Senior’s Group is a valuable group in our community and this month I went along to their meeting. We discussed a wide range of important issues. I thank the group for the invitation, and certainly look forward to having another chat soon!

East Adelaide Primary School prides itself on the values it instils in its students - respect, responsibility, relationships and resilience. I caught up with the Year 6 students to talk about their leadership responsibilities as they transition into year 7 next year. I was thoroughly impressed by the enthusiasm of this group and wish them all the best as they move towards being the school’s new leaders!

And lastly, a quick heads-up. On Wednesday the 29th of July, I will be addressing the Norwood Residents Association AGM at the Don Pyatt Hall in George Street Norwood. The meeting starts at 7:30PM, and I encourage you to come along if you can. I hope to see you there.
