Labor must commit to no new taxes

The State Liberals have called on the Weatherill Labor Government to commit to introducing no new taxes in next week’s State Budget.

“Given that South Australia’s unemployment rate has now skyrocketed to 7.6 per cent, the Weatherill Labor Government must start working on a plan to transform our economy and create jobs,” said Shadow Treasurer Rob Lucas.

“This begins with ensuring that no new taxes are introduced in next week’s State Budget.

“In fact, the Weatherill Labor Government must provide tax relief to struggling businesses and households in next week’s Budget.

“South Australia was the only state to record an increase in unemployment last month and continues to have the highest unemployment rate in the nation.

“The announced closure of the Port Augusta power stations and Leigh Creek coal mine yesterday is further evidence that we are in the midst of an escalating jobs crisis.

“South Australia needs to be transformed into a State where people invest and new jobs are created.

“Sadly it is in the DNA of the Labor Party to only want to talk about increasing taxes or introducing new taxes.

“It’s time Premier Weatherill realises that in order to create jobs in South Australia we need to lower taxes and reduce red tape to encourage business investment and economic growth.

“Any tax increases in the upcoming State Budget will simply further erode business confidence in South Australia.

“We need to be encouraging investment and job creation in South Australia – not discouraging it.”
