Labor must reinstate Henley Beach Police Station opening hours

The State Liberals are calling on the Weatherill Labor Government to reverse its absurd decision to cut the operating hours at the Henley Beach Police Station.

“The Weatherill Labor Government spent $5 million upgrading the Henley Beach Police Station, which has just been reopened, only to drastically cut its operating hours,” said State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall.

“Henley Beach is a bustling entertainment precent yet the Weatherill Government is restricting the operation of its police station to nine to five on weekdays.

“At the very time the presence of the police is most needed, on the weekend and in particular Friday and Saturday night, the station’s doors are shut.

“Such restrictive hours also comes at great inconvenience for locals.

“Many people are restricted to when they can attend the police station during the day due to work commitments and many queries cannot be dealt with or reported online or over the phone.”

Henley Beach Police Station was previously operating 8am to 11pm seven days a week.

The State Liberals welcome last week’s announcement by the State Government that it has back-flipped on delaying its police recruitment target.

“Now that the recruitment target is back on track there will be more officers available for manning police stations,” said Mr Marshall.

“It is critical that we have local police services operating during our busiest periods.”

Half of Adelaide’s metropolitan police stations have had their station opening hours downgraded to Monday-Friday 9am to 5pm.
