Labor must release Gillman contract

The State Liberals are calling on the Weatherill Labor Government to release the Gillman land contract now that the first parcel of land has been sold.

South Australians have a right to know exactly what is included in the contract, particularly in regards to what requirements must be met before further stages of the project can go ahead.

Also of particular interest is what the requirements are for the development of an oil & gas hub on the site that the Weatherill Labor Government has been spruiking.

“The Weatherill Labor Government’s decision to enter into this deal without proper commercial consideration may have led to a bad deal for South Australians,” said Deputy State Liberal Leader Vickie Chapman.

“The Supreme Court has found that the Weatherill Labor Government’s decision to sell 400ha of land at Gillman without going to tender was “irrational”.

“The Court also found that the decision had not been made in accordance with “prudent commercial principles”.

“There was a significant level of concern from the general public and from businesses about the Weatherill Labor Government’s decision to sell the land at Gillman without going to public tender.

“That’s why it is critical that the Weatherill Labor Government releases details of the contract so that South Australians can determine whether or not the deal provides value for money and hold the Government to account.

“The Weatherill Labor Government has not been upfront with South Australians about this deal from the start – that needs to change, and the Government can take the first step in restoring public confidence by releasing the contract immediately.”
