Late trains continue on the Belair line

The State Liberals are calling on the Weatherill Labor Government to explain why 1 in every 6 trains are running late on the Belair line.

On time running statistics released by the Department of Transport last week showed that only 86 per cent of Belair trains are operating on time.

This is despite the fact that the Rail Commissioner announced two weeks ago that the delays appeared to be resolved through an “automatic route setting function during the week” and that patrons should start to see better reliability.

“This is an unacceptable rate and does not give patrons confidence in South Australia’s public transport system,” said Shadow Minister for Transport Corey Wingard.

“Why are our trains running so late after the Weatherill Labor Government has spent millions of taxpayers’ dollars on line upgrades?

“The Government has promised to increase public transport patronage, yet with such poor running times they are failing to convince South Australians that the system is a reliable alternative.

“Adelaide commuters just want a train service that is safe and runs on time.

“The Government must explain why Adelaide Metro’s on time running performance has deteriorated to this point.”
