Liberals call for better traffic management during Clipsal

The State Liberals have called on the Weatherill Labor Government to ensure that road maintenance and other minor roadworks within 10kms of the CBD are scheduled around Clipsal road closures to ensure better traffic flow.

“Every year Adelaide grinds to halt when roads are closed for the Clipsal 500,” said Shadow Minister for Transport David Pisoni.

“For too long the Weatherill Labor Government has sat back and just asked people to accept these delays.

“That’s just unacceptable.

“We know that traffic delays reduce productivity, and we know that these road closures happen at the same time every year.

“It makes sense to ensure that minor roadworks within 10kms of the CBD are either completed before Clipsal road closures begin, or are postponed until after Clipsal road closures finish.

“All it involves is a bit of planning and preparation.

“The State Liberals have already committed to developing a Festival Transport Plan to relieve Adelaide’s traffic gridlock during major events, if elected to government.

“The State Liberals would use the Transport Department to develop the plan, which would consider options such as free public transport, changing traffic light sequences and banning certain traffic movements during road closures.

“Developing a coordinated and integrated Festival Transport Plan would reduce commuter chaos and encourage the use of public transport.”
