The State Liberals are calling on the Weatherill Labor Government to recall Parliament this week to deal with any urgent reforms proposed in the Royal Commission Report into child protection.
The Report is being released tomorrow, but Parliament is not sitting again until the 20th September – 43 days later.
“We cannot wait 43 days to start discussing the necessary reforms that we need to implement,” said State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall.
“The State Liberal Team is more than happy to return to Parliament this week so that we can begin the process of debating and passing any legislation required to reform our child protection system.
“I would hope that the Weatherill Labor Government would also be willing and ready to do the same.
“We don’t need any more talk – we need action.
“14 years of Labor has left our most vulnerable children dependent on a broken child protection system that is unable to protect children at risk.
“We must immediately begin reforming this broken system so that we can start protecting our vulnerable children again.
“If Premier Weatherill doesn’t recall Parliament this week then it demonstrates his complete disinterest in reforming the child protection system in South Australia.”
