Liberals welcome Nuclear Commission’s Tentative Findings

The State Liberal Team has welcomed the Tentative Findings released by the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Royal Commission today.

“On behalf of the Liberal Party, I’d like to thank Commissioner Scarce for the valuable work he and his team are doing,” said State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall.

“Any decision to expand South Australia’s role in the nuclear industry needs to be a community decision with support from both the state and federal government.

“We need to weigh up the opportunities and risks associated with expanding SA’s role in the nuclear fuel cycle and further work is required to look at exactly how we could be involved.

“I encourage all South Australians to enter into this discussion and participate in the five week community consultation process.

“It is important to remember the findings released today are a summary of research undertaken so far and I look forward to the Commission’s final recommendations which will be released in May.

“We must remember that this is not going to be the silver bullet for the jobs crisis that Jay Weatherill and his Labor Government have delivered.

“Jobs in the nuclear industry wouldn’t be created until much further into the future – we need to be creating jobs now.”
