Marshall visits Japanese shipyards today

State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall will today tour the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Kawasaki Heavy Industries’ shipyards in Japan.

The visit follows Mr Marshall’s recent trip to France and Germany where he toured the DCNS and Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems shipyards.

“Australia’s next generation of submarines will be critical to our nation’s defence capabilities and for employment opportunities in South Australia,” Mr Marshall said.

“It is important for South Australia to work with the potential international partners to ensure the best outcome for our state which would be to build the next generation of submarines in Adelaide at ASC.

“ASC’s defence-building capabilities and workforce are second to none.

“I have been lobbying the Federal Government on the benefits of building the future submarines in Adelaide, including having regular meetings with the Prime Minister and Defence Minister.

“The State Liberals will continue to lobby the Federal Government to secure the future of shipbuilding in South Australia and will continue to fight for local jobs on behalf of all South Australians.”

Mr Marshall’s tour of the Kobe shipyards will commence at 11.30am Adelaide time.
