New threat to waiting times at Flinders ED

The Weatherill Government’s refusal to guarantee the future of Noarlunga Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) will put a new strain on Flinders Medical Centre’s ED.

However, Flinders is also suffering from a $100 million cut to its funding from the Weatherill Government and endless problems of ramping in the ED.

Staff at Noarlunga have told the State Liberals that persistent rumours about the future of the ED is unsettling workers.

Voters in Fisher are concerned that any downsizing at Noarlunga would have a detriment effect on the Flinders Medial Centre.

Health Minister Jack Snelling has consistently failed to answer the question for Fisher voters and recently told radio:

“in one emergency department in metropolitan Adelaide of all patients who present only 7% are admitted and the other 7% are transferred to another nearby major hospital”.

“The Minister and Labor’s candidate for Fisher need to confirm that the Minister is referring to Noarlunga hospital,” said State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall.

“Voters should not be forced to wait until after the December 6 by-election to find out that their local hospital will face dramatically increased emergency patient numbers.

“Labor has a track record in saying one thing and doing another.”
