The State Liberals are demanding that the new Chief Executive of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet Don Russell choose to either reside permanently in South Australia or resign from the high-powered position.
“Don Russell is now the most important bureaucrat in South Australia and it is totally unacceptable for him to living here on a part-time basis,” said Shadow Treasurer Rob Lucas.
“With the highest unemployment in the country, sky rocketing electricity prices and crumbling public confidence in its competence the Weatherill Government can’t afford anyone with less than 100 per cent commitment to South Australia.
“We need a head of the public service who lives and breathes the issues that matter to South Australians, not a fly-in fly-out interloper who spend his weekends in Sydney.
“The Premier Jay Weatherill should also reveal exactly how much Mr Russell has been offered to fulfill the role of Chief Executive of the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
“Mr Russell’s predecessor Kym Winter-Dewhirst was on $555,000 a year, $125,000 more than Jim Hallion the man he replaced.
“This appointment is just another example of what is wrong with Jay Weatherill and his Government.
“It is a damning indictment of Mr Weatherill that he could possibility think the appointment is what South Australia needs at this time.
