Regions left out of Governor’s speech

South Australia’s regions were dealt a blow yesterday with the Governor’s speech failing to mention the regions once when outlining the Weatherill Labor Government’s agenda during the opening of Parliament.

“The Weatherill Labor Government made it clear yesterday that South Australian regions are not on their agenda,” said Shadow Regional Development Minister Steven Griffiths.

“This is a slap in the face to regional South Australians.

“It also demonstrates that Regional Development Minister Geoff Brock has lost his relevance in the Weatherill Labor Government as an “Independent” Member.

“As Regional Development Minister in a Labor Government that has a history of neglecting regional South Australia, Mr Brock carried enormous responsibility.

“However, Minister Brock has failed to deliver a better deal for the people of regional South Australia.

“The State Liberals understand that we need to support our regional communities to grow jobs, improve infrastructure and reinvigorate our economy.

“Regional South Australians need a State Government that values our regions and strengthens their businesses and communities.

“Regional South Australia has been ignored by the Weatherill Labor Government for 13 long years and deserve better.”
