Rent money is dead money

The Weatherill Labor Government has spent $5.85 million in rent on properties it leases but are empty, since July 2014.

“This is $5.85 million that could have been better spent fixing the crisis in our health care system or trying to keep our children safe,” said Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Waste Stephan Knoll.

“The Weatherill Government claims that it has saved money by consolidating offices but it is impossible for them to save money whilst they are still paying for these empty buildings.

“Only this incompetent Labor Government could claim that they are saving money by wasting it on disused office space.

“In July 2014 the yearly figure for wasted rent was $2.048 million – as of 1 January 2017 that figure increased to $2.211 million.

“This is an issue that has been highlighted over a number of years. However, instead of getting better it is getting worse. This is just another example of the waste and mismanagement that has become the hallmark of this tired Labor Government.”
