The State Liberal Team welcomes today’s announcement from the Federal Coalition Government that the next generation of Navy Frigates will be built in South Australia.
Building the next generation of Navy Frigates in South Australia will create up to 2,500 jobs with work beginning in 2020.
“Today’s announcement is great news for South Australia, particularly for workers in the ship building industry,” said State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall.
“It shows confidence in the ASC’s defence-building capabilities and workforce, which are second to none.
“The State Liberals will continue to lobby the Coalition Government to ensure South Australia receives its fair share of future defence projects.
“In particular, we remain of the firm view that the future submarines for the Royal Australian Navy should be built at Osborne.
“As part of a recent trip, I visited the shipyards of DCNS in France and Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems in Germany to promote South Australia’s defence workforce and skills capabilities.
“Both companies indicated a willingness to partner with the ASC to build submarines in Australia.”
