South Australia wins with new Turnbull Ministry

State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall has welcomed today’s Turnbull Ministry announcement as a massive win for South Australia.

“Prime Minister Turnbull has selected a team that will be outstanding for South Australia.

“I warmly congratulate Christopher Pyne, Simon Birmingham, Jamie Briggs and Anne Ruston on their ministerial roles.

“South Australia now has two Cabinet Ministers, doubling our influence around the cabinet table.

“Christopher Pyne’s appointment to the industry portfolio is particularly significant. No other state needs an Industry Minister with an intimate understanding of their challenges like South Australia does right now.

“With the automotive sector transitioning, defence sector opportunities emerging, and our unemployment rate climbing to 8.1%, having a passionate South Australian like Christopher in that role is a massive boost.

“Simon Birmingham’s elevation to Cabinet gives South Australia a great boost in our representation. Simon will be an excellent Minister for Education and his promotion is thoroughly deserved.

“Jamie Briggs continues as a Minister with a new portfolio and I know Jamie will bring the same passion to Cities and the Built Environment as he did with Infrastructure. His work on delivery infrastructure projects for South Australia is a legacy that will benefit SA for decades to come.

“Anne Ruston’s new responsibilities for agriculture and water is a great outcome for South Australia’s interests. As a Riverland-based MP, she understands the issues of the River Murray from South Australia’s perspective and will fiercely advocate on our behalf.

“I congratulate them all on their roles in the Turnbull Ministry.”
