State Budget must address $1 billion road maintenance backlog

The State Liberals have called on the Weatherill Labor Government to address the estimated $1 billion road maintenance backlog in the State Budget, or risk South Australia falling further behind the rest of the nation.

According to the Civil Contractors Federation (SA), the road maintenance backlog has blown out to a staggering $1 billion which is stifling business productivity.

“Poorly maintained roads are dangerous and a handbrake on the South Australian economy,” said Shadow Minister for Transport Corey Wingard.

“The Weatherill Labor Government has been ignoring our roads for years which cannot continue.

“Road maintenance isn’t sexy, but it’s critical to ensuring South Australians are safe on our roads and our economy is productive.

“If the Weatherill Government fails to direct funding towards this spiraling problem South Australia will continue to be left behind the rest of the nation.”
