Time for friendly advice for Finnigan

Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis and Health Minister Jack Snelling should be using private and public means of persuasion to convince disgraced former Labor Minister Bernard Finnigan to resign from State Parliament immediately.

“Mr Koutsantonis and Mr Snelling were both effusive about their friendship with Finnigan before he was charged with child pornography offences but have been silent ever since,” said State Liberal MP David Pisoni.

Snelling: My good friend Bernard Finnigan … has been a great help to many of us here, particularly to me. (Hansard 2 May 2006)

Koutsantonis: Bernard has been a very good friend of mine … we achieved a 12.1 per cent swing, and I attribute that entirely to Bernard’s good work … he will make his parents very proud in this place. (Hansard 2 May 2006)

“Bernard Finnigan’s criminal behavior makes him totally unfit to sit in Parliament and people he regards as his friends are best placed to give him that message,” said Mr Pisoni.

Finnigan:  I congratulate warmly my colleagues in the other place, the members for Playford (Jack Snelling) and West Torrens (Tom Koutsantonis) on their re-election and their election to their respective offices. I thank them for their friendship and support over many years (Hansard 8 May 2006)

“Treasurer Koutsantonis and Health Minister Jack Snelling should end their silence regarding Finnigan’s disgraceful conduct and issue statements condemning his appalling behavior and calling for his immediate resignation.”
