Why hasn’t construction started on new War Memorial pathway?

The Weatherill Labor Government has seemingly broken another promise to South Australians, this time over a tribute to South Australian veterans.

In January last year, Premier Weatherill issued a press release announcing a new pathway linking the War Memorial on North Terrace with the Torrens Parade Ground as “the centrepiece of the State Government’s commitment to marking the centenary of ANZAC in 2015”.

In the release, Minister Snelling stated:

“We are committed to ensuring there is a proper tribute to our veterans on this important milestone.”

However, construction work on the pathway has not yet begun.

“Premier Weatherill must now explain why construction work has not yet begun on this project despite it being announced at the start of last year,” said State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall.

“It is disappointing that the Weatherill Labor Government does not have this project ready in time for the Centenary of Anzac Day commemorations this year.

“Given that construction work has not yet begun on the project, Premier Weatherill must outline exactly when he expects the project to be completed.

“Sadly this appears to be just another example of the Weatherill Labor Government promising something before an election and then failing to deliver.”
