The State Liberals have pledged $500,000 to the McLaren Vale and Districts War Memorial Hospital, as Adelaide’s southern hospitals struggle to cope in the wake of Labor’s disastrous Transforming Health changes.
“Our southern hospitals are under enormous stress as a result of the Transforming Health changes that included downgrading Noarlunga Hospital and closing the Repat Hospital in Daw Park,” said Shadow Minister for Health and Wellbeing Stephen Wade.
“The McLaren Vale Hospital is the southern-most hospital in the metropolitan area and it provides a vital regional health service that increasingly supports Adelaide’s southern metropolitan public hospitals.
“The Hospital is a community-owned, not-for-profit hospital which has provided services to public patients through a contract with SA Health for over 14 years – so it’s only right that public investments are made into the hospital’s infrastructure so that it can continue to meet the health needs of the community.
“The Liberals’ $500,000 commitment includes funding for a solar panel array which is estimated to reduce the Hospital’s energy costs by $70,000 a year.
“This will be a major boost to the cash flow and ongoing viability of the McLaren Vale Hospital, and enhance the hospital’s role as a provider of services to public patients in the southern area of Adelaide.
“A Marshall Liberal Government will also provide funding towards the conversion of the Manning Wing into a building for patient care.”
The Hospital’s Board has developed its own strategic plan for infrastructure upgrades, and the Liberal Candidate for Mawson Andy Gilfillan has commended the work of the McLaren Vale community.
“There is a great amount of affection for the McLaren Vale and Districts Hospital among the local community and I want to congratulate the Board for developing plans to upgrade the hospital, including the installation of a solar panel array,” said Mr Gilfillan.
“The strategic plan also provides for upgrades to the surgical suite, and a purpose built shed for the use of volunteers.
“I’m determined to fight for better health services and facilities and I will always strongly advocate for the McLaren Vale Hospital to provide health care in the south well into the future.”
