The State Liberals are calling on the Minister for Tourism Leon Bignell to explain his social media post regarding the Tour Down Under:
While nothing can be guaranteed until the final decision of the review is announced later this year I am optimistic our race is safe.
“Given the Minister had just met with the UCI President Brian Cookson in Switzerland it is concerning he couldn’t guarantee the Tour Down Under will continue,” said Michelle Lensink, Deputy Leader in the Legislative Council.
“ The Tour Down Under is immensely important to South Australia and it’s critical that is doesn’t go the same way as the Adelaide Grand Prix went under the Bannon Labor Government.
“To paraphrase Oscar Wilde to lose one flagship sporting event may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose two looks like carelessness.”
