The State Liberals are calling on the Auditor General Simon O’Neill to release his report into the Weatherill Government’s highly controversial Gillman land sale.
“Following the Supreme Court’s scathing judgment the Auditor General must release his report into this highly dubious land deal immediately,” said Shadow Attorney-General Vickie Chapman.
“The Auditor General’s report will throw light on the exact nature of the relationship between Minister Koutsantonis, the Minister’s office, Renewal SA and the decision to sell the land to Adelaide Capital Partners (ACP).
“Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis needs to come out of hiding today and answer a series of critical questions about this highly dubious land deal.
“Did Treasurer Koutsantonis pressure Renewal SA to accept the ACP proposal that the Supreme Court found was unlawful and irrational?
“Why was Treasury advice against selling the land to ACP without a competitive tender rejected?
“How can Treasurer Koutsantonis claim a land deal labelled by a Supreme Court Justice as unlawful and irrational represent good value for the taxpayer?
“Why has Treasurer Koutsantonis repeatedly claimed there were no other parties interested in the land when it has been reported at least five serious offers were made for the land to the State Government?
“Why has Mr Koutsantonis repeatedly claimed the Board of Renewal SA supported the sale to ACP without going to competitive tender when the Board did not support that option?
The State Liberals referred the suspect land deal to the Auditor-General in December 2013.
Mr O’Neill completed his investigation whilst the Supreme Court action was underway and took the unusual step of withholding his report until the court action was complete.
