On the 22nd May I held my annual Austerity Night Fundraiser at the Salvation Army Hall, Norwood. This is the ninth time that I have organised this community fundraiser, with the money raised going to support the work of the Salvation Army and Operation Flinders. These two great organisations undertake tremendous work assisting the vulnerable and at-risk in our community.
Major June Purdy, Corps Officer (Norwood) Salvation Army as well as from Major Dean Clarke, Area Officer, Central and Southern Salvation Army spoke about the Salvation Army’s work in assisting families and individuals who struggle with drug addiction, social isolation and homelessness.
Mr John van Ruth, CEO of Operation Flinders spoke about his organisation’s work with at-risk teens through their annual treks to the Flinders Ranges. Young people on these treks are taken out of their comfort zones and assisted to develop important life skills that help them in their daily lives.
