I recently joined the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, Minister for Defence and Member for Sturt and Mayor of the City of Norwood, Payneham and St Peters, Robert Bria to formally open Felixstow Reserve.
Federal, State and Local governments have successfully worked together to deliver on this important project which has breathed new life into this fantastic community asset and it was wonderful to see so many members of the community at the open. The State Government gave $1 million to help make the project a reality.
The Felixstow Reserve now includes basketball, netball and bocce courts plus an open lawn area for kids to run and play or kick a footy. There are also free public fitness stations, nature play spaces, barbecue amenities, walking trails and a shared path.
The Reserve features a newly constructed wetlands system which creates new habitats for birds and animals while capturing, treating and storing storm water through an Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) scheme. The recycled storm water will be used for irrigation purposes across the eastern region of Adelaide.
