The State Liberals say the gathering wave of industrial action leaves the Weatherill Government no option but to suspend Transforming Health and conduct an immediate audit of the impact of budget cuts.
The latest revelation of the closure of 35 beds at the Royal Adelaide Hospital comes on top of 117 beds closing in the south and adverse events from the downgrade of Modbury.
“The Weatherill Government has broken its promise that there would be no cuts to bed numbers and hospital staff until Transforming Health delivered efficiencies,” said Shadow Health Minister Stephen Wade.
“Hospital doctors, nurses and patients have come forward to expose the chaos that has gripped Adelaide’s hospital network as a result of the budget cuts implemented under Transforming Health.
“Closing three metropolitan hospitals, cutting 500 beds and thousands of jobs was always going to create immense pressure on the remaining hospitals.
“Trying to roll out Transforming Health at the same time as moving to New Royal Adelaide Hospital is creating a roundabout of health services that is putting patient safety at risk."
