The State Liberals welcome today’s findings and recommendations from Coroner Mark Johns into the tragic death of Chloe Valentine.
“Today marks the end of a very sad chapter in South Australia’s child protection history,” said Shadow Minister for Families and Child Protection Rachel Sanderson.
“The Weatherill Labor Government must today, for the first time, take responsibility for the child protection mess we have in South Australia.
“The Coroner’s findings and recommendations must be considered and implemented.
“We need to prevent what happened to Chloe Valentine from happening to any other child in this state as much as we can.
“It is not good enough for the Weatherill Labor Government to simply take note of today’s findings – the Government must also take action.
“It is clear that changes to the system must be made and child protection in South Australia needs to be refocused.
“It is time for the Government to end Premier Weatherill’s failed experiment of co-locating child protection and education in the same department – child protection and education must be separated.
“The State Liberals will work in a productive, bipartisan manner with the Weatherill Labor Government on any legislative changes arising from the inquest’s findings.”
