State Parliament will today finally debate a motion to introduce a Statement of Principles for Members of Parliament.
This motion will be supported by the State Liberals.
In June 2012 the late Hon Bob Such MP moved that the same Statement of Principles be adopted, however Premier Weatherill and his Labor Government consistently failed to support it.
Eventually the Premier announced he would introduce this in late 2014, but then did nothing to progress it.
“The ICAC report into the Gillman land deal and the findings in respect of the behavior of Treasurer Koutsantonis should have made it crystal clear to the Premier that a Statement of Principles needed to be introduced,” said Deputy State Liberal Leader Vickie Chapman.
“This is certainly a case of better late than never.
“A Statement of Principles is an important step in ensuring that all Members of Parliament can be held accountable for their actions and behavior.”
