State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall has thanked everyone involved in fighting the fires that have been threatening life and property in the Adelaide Hills and the South-East.
This morning Mr Marshall is driving to Glencoe in the South-East of the state to personally thank the many people who were involved in containing the fires that swept through the region on Friday and Saturday.
“The selfless effort that we have witnessed from so many in the face of great personal danger in fighting these fires makes me very proud to be a South Australian,” Mr Marshall said.
“It is a particularly commendable to put aside the needs of family and work whilst risking one’s life as a volunteer to serve the wider community.
“Fortunately every time a community is threatened by fire the people of South Australia rally around to help reduce the impact of this devastating force of nature.
“During the weekend I had the good fortune of visiting the Relief Centres that were established at Golden Grove and Willaston to assist residents affected by the Adelaide Hills fires.
“The level of generosity from strangers to people affected at those Relief Centres was striking.
“Our community bonds have been strengthened by the manner in which we have pulled together in the face of danger during the last few days.”
Member for MacKillop Mitch Williams and Member for Mount Gambier Troy Bell will join Mr Marshall at Glencoe to thank CFS and Forestry SA firefighters.
