The State Liberals are calling on the Health Minister Jack Snelling to establish an independent inquiry into allegations that a patient who presented at Modbury Hospital lost a testicle as a consequence of the Weatherill Government’s controversial Transforming Health program.
“The tens of thousands of South Australians who rely on Modbury Hospital need the Health Minister to deal with these allegations immediately,” said Shadow Minister for Health Stephen Wade.
“If the Minister is correct that there is no truth in the allegations then the Government has nothing to fear from an independent inquiry.
“Indeed initiating an independent inquiry and committing to the public release of its findings would be a welcome act of good faith by the Weatherill Government.
“Health professionals have repeatedly warned that the Weatherill Government's hospital cutbacks are a threat to patient safety.
“The public can no longer have any confidence in the Health Minister or his radical Transforming Health program.
“The Minister categorically denied the allegations in Parliament.
“Nothing short of a full independent inquiry into this disturbing case is now acceptable.”
