New CBD office building to create thousands of jobs

A new 20-storey complex is set to change Adelaide’s skyline, create up to 2,000 jobs during construction and deliver long term savings for South Australian taxpayers.

The $300 million new office building, to be located at 83 Pirie Street, will be delivered by Cbus Property Pty Ltd.

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) will be the anchor tenant and consolidate its city-based operations from seven locations into one office building.

Premier Steven Marshall said the Government was supporting infrastructure projects to complement its record $12.9 billion pipeline of infrastructure works to create local jobs and security for businesses.

“As our economy feels the impacts of COVID-19 it is essential that we continue to support the construction sector here in South Australia by delivering new projects,” said Premier Marshall.

“This new $300 million building will support up to 2,000 jobs during the construction phase and provide more work for local businesses and contractors.

“The State Government has a strong plan to protect the health of South Australians and deal with the economic fallout during the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are delivering a $1 billion economic stimulus package to help keep South Australians in work which are crucial to supporting local businesses and families.”

Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government Stephan Knoll said consolidating DPTI’s seven city locations would deliver massive savings to taxpayers.

“The new ten-year lease will see DPTI occupy less than 18,500m2, reducing the department’s footprint and delivering savings of more than $50 million over the term of the lease,” said Minister Knoll.

“Not only will this project support thousands of jobs during construction, but it will also save taxpayers tens of millions of dollars over the next ten years.

“DPTI will be the anchor tenant for this new building and occupy ten levels of the 20-storey complex when the lease agreement begins in 2023.”

Detailed design work will occur this year, with the appointment of a builder expected by late 2020.
