The Weatherilll Labor Government’s decision to release a proposal for upgrading Adelaide’s North-South Road Corridor after the release of the 2015 Federal Budget has hurt South Australia.
Despite talking about a non-stop North-South Road Corridor for a number of years, the Weatherill Labor Government had failed to develop a plan for the upgrade until yesterday when it released a plan formulated using Federal Government funding.
“Either Treasurer Koutsantonis doesn’t understand how a budget process works, or he deliberately waited until after the release of the Federal Budget to play petty political games,” said Shadow Minister for Infrastructure Vickie Chapman.
“This is what we have come to expect from a Treasurer who is more interested in arguing with people than delivering results – in this case, a much needed infrastructure upgrade.
“Mr Koutsantonis is now a massive liability for South Australia.
“His inability to work with the Federal Government to deliver projects is hurting South Australia.
“The State Liberals support upgrading the entire corridor, which will benefit both commuters and businesses.
“However, it is disappointing that it has taken the Weatherill Labor Government this long to develop a plan for this important project.
“Premier Weatherill now needs to put someone in charge of negotiations with the Federal Government who will be able to deliver results for South Australia.”
