November Update

One of the most important days in November is Remembrance Day, when we pay our respects to all the servicemen and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. This year I attended the Payneham RSL’s service and would like to thank all the members and volunteers who organised the service. Lest we forget.

Following the success of our Multicultural Leaders Event last year, I was delighted to co-host the event with the Hon. Jing Lee MLC again this year.  We had 500 representatives across more than a dozen different nationalities attend the function. What I love about this event is that it brings members of the multicultural community together, and gives them the chance to network with the Liberal Parliamentary Team.

Congratulations to St. Ignatius Junior School for 100% participation in the 2014 Premier’s Reading Challenge. It was a pleasure to attend their school assembly and present the medals to the students who all had a real sense of pride in what they have achieved.

In my first term as the local Member of Parliament I joined forces with local community groups to start the first metropolitan chapter of Operation Flinders, an organisation which turns around the lives of at risk teenagers through their outdoor wilderness program. This month I attended the 2014 presentation event to congratulate those who participated in the Norwood Chapter of Operation Flinders.  I was honoured to present awards to ten students from Marryatville High School who recently participated in this great program. Congratulations to all involved!

It was a fantastic to speak at the Norwood Payneham & St Peters Volunteers Christmas Dinner. Our volunteer groups are the backbone of our local community, with the work that they do often going without any public accolade. The dinner was a great opportunity to say thank you to the many dedicated volunteers who put in endless hours to make our community such a great one.

I recently spoke at the Kensington Residents Association AGM, where it was great to discuss issues that are concerning them.  Congratulations to the Association who have successfully ran a series of events to celebrate 175 years of settlement!
