Riverland business claims top SA export award

Renmark based Almondco Australia was recognised for its continued success across the world after being named South Australian Exporter of the Year at an awards ceremony in Adelaide last night and will now represent the state at the national awards later this month.

Shadow Minister for Investment and Trade and Member for Chaffey, Tim Whetstone attended the Business SA 2016 Export Awards and said he was proud to see a Riverland business acknowledged for growing the state’s exports.

“The field of entrants to the Export Awards this year were once again outstanding and being recognised at these prestigious awards is a great credit to the hard work of South Australia’s exporters,” Mr Whetstone said.

“Almondco Australia has gone from strength to strength, growing its exports with more than half of its almond kernels currently shipped to the Middle East, South East Asia and Western Europe.

“It was a proud moment when Almondco was named Exporter of the Year after earlier in the night being named Regional Exporter of the Year. Almondco’s success has led to greater wealth generation and employment opportunities in regional areas, under a value adding approach which has seen Riverland communities also reaping great rewards.

“As a world leader in the industry, the Renmark-based firm has been supplying almond products since 1944, with the co-operative sourcing almonds from 85 per cent of Australia’s growers with well-established export markets in over 35 countries including the UK, Western Europe, India, Japan, Middle East and New Zealand, South East Asia, Eastern Europe and China.

“Congratulations to all of the award winners on the night. It is important we continue to honour and celebrate the achievements of our exporters, who are providing innovation and creativity to meet market demands across the world.”
