In an internationally broadcast interview Premier Weatherill has claimed BHP Billiton has the biggest open-cut mine in the nation in South Australia.
Premier Weatherill said, “…you need to remember on a mine like BHP its actually got about 4,000 people there, while any job loss is to be regretted, it’s still the largest open-cut mine in the nation, in our state.”
“How could the Premier forget that the Olympic Dam expansion did not go ahead?” asked Shadow Minister for Mineral Resources and Energy Dan van Holst Pellekaan.
“Representing our state across the world, all South Australians would expect the Premier to provide the most basic information accurately.”
In another gaffe, when questioned on South Australia’s jobs crisis, Premier Weatherill embarrassingly said:
“Well, the South Australian jobs story is one of growth, it is just that it hasn’t been keeping pace with the growth of our workforce.”
“What does that statement even mean?” asked Mr van Holst Pellekaan.
